GrEL's 2X Reimbursement Policy: What Happens If Your Cab Doesn't Show Up

Anyone who's booked a cab in India has a story like this: the app confirms your ride, you're standing outside on time, and then — nothing. The driver cancels, or never shows, or arrives twenty minutes late while you're already stressing about missing your flight. Most apps offer an apology and maybe a small credit. That's it.
GrEL's 2X Reimbursement Policy takes a different approach: if a confirmed booking is a no-show or arrives significantly late, you don't just get your money back — you get double.
How the 2X Actually Works
When a booking qualifies, GrEL provides two things, not one:
- 1X — Full Refund: 100% of the booking fare, credited back to your original payment method.
- +1X — Promotional Coupons: An additional 100% of the booking fare, provided as two coupons worth 50% each, usable on future GrEL rides.
On a ₹1,000 booking, for example, that's ₹1,000 refunded plus ₹1,000 in coupons — ₹2,000 of total benefit from a single missed pickup.
What Counts as a No-Show or Delay?
The policy is specific about what qualifies, so there's no ambiguity when something goes wrong:
- The assigned vehicle never reaches your pickup location.
- GrEL is unable to fulfil the ride and cancels it from their side.
- The vehicle arrives more than 30 minutes after the scheduled pickup time.
When It Doesn't Apply
To keep the policy fair, a few situations are excluded — largely ones outside GrEL's control or caused by the customer:
- The car arrives on time but you don't board within the waiting period.
- Incorrect pickup address, GPS pin, or trip details.
- You cancel the booking yourself.
- Force majeure events — severe weather, flooding, road closures, strikes, or similar disruptions.
How to Claim It
In most cases, reimbursement is processed automatically. If it isn't, raise a ticket through the Help & Support section of the GrEL app within 24 hours of your scheduled pickup. Coupons are typically credited within 24 hours; refunds to your original payment method can take 3–5 business days depending on your bank.
Where it's available: The 2X Reimbursement Policy is currently live for rides within Mumbai. GrEL is working to extend the same guarantee to Pune–Mumbai intercity rides soon — in the meantime, standard cancellation policy terms apply on that route.
Why This Matters
Cancellations and no-shows aren't just an inconvenience — they can mean a missed flight, a late arrival to a client meeting, or a genuinely stressful start to a trip. Most cab platforms treat this as an unavoidable cost of doing business. GrEL's 2X policy treats it as something the company should be financially accountable for, not just apologetic about.
Combined with GrEL's fully company-owned fleet — rather than gig drivers juggling multiple apps — the 2X policy is less a marketing gesture and more a structural bet: reliability should be enforceable, not just promised.
