GrEL Completes Driver Induction Training —
30 Hours, Safer Roads

GrEL TeamJune 16, 2026 · 5 min read

At GrEL (SNM Cabs Pvt. Ltd.), building a safer and more professional ride-hailing service starts long before a driver takes their first booking. We recently completed our Driver Induction Training Programme — a structured, government-mandated initiative that every driver-partner on our platform must complete before going live.

The programme spans 5 days and 30 hours of structured learning, delivered in person at our facility. Here is a look at what we covered, why it matters, and some moments captured from the training sessions.

What Is the Driver Induction Training?

Under the Motor Vehicles Aggregator Guidelines issued by the Government of India, aggregators are required to ensure that every driver-partner on their platform completes a structured induction training before being onboarded. These guidelines lay out the mandatory curriculum, and GrEL takes this obligation seriously — not just as compliance, but as a foundation for delivering the quality of service our passengers deserve.

What the Training Covered

The 30-hour programme covered nine core areas as defined under the government mandate:

1

Using the GrEL Mobile Application

Hands-on training on how to use the GrEL driver app — accepting rides, navigation, trip management, fare view, and in-app support.

2

Relevant Acts and Rules

An overview of key legal provisions governing commercial transportation in India, including passenger rights, driver obligations, and aggregator regulations.

3

Motor Vehicles (Driving) Regulations 2017

In-depth study of driving regulations that govern conduct on Indian roads — licensing norms, permissible speeds, and road safety standards.

4

First Responder Training (6+ Hours)

At least six hours on emergency response — how to assist in road accidents, provide basic first aid, contact emergency services, and keep passengers calm.

5

Careful Driving, Traffic Rules & Vehicle Maintenance

Defensive driving techniques, traffic rule adherence, fuel-efficient driving habits, and routine EV maintenance to keep vehicles in top condition.

6

Route Familiarisation

Orientation on key routes, pickup/drop zones, charging station locations, and area-specific knowledge to help drivers navigate efficiently.

7

Terms & Conditions of the Driver–Aggregator Agreement

A clear walkthrough of the agreement between GrEL and driver-partners — earnings structure, cancellation policy, conduct standards, and grievance mechanisms.

8

Gender Sensitivity & Divyangjan Sensitivity

Respectful conduct with passengers of all genders, and awareness of mobility needs of differently-abled (Divyangjan) passengers — offering appropriate assistance with empathy.

9

Additional State-Specified Training

Supplementary modules as specified by the Maharashtra State Government to meet local regulatory requirements.

Beyond the Rulebook

While the government mandate sets the minimum bar, GrEL's approach to driver training goes further. Our sessions are interactive — drivers are encouraged to ask questions, share experiences from the road, and understand the reasoning behind every policy and rule rather than just memorising them.

The first responder module, in particular, received strong engagement. Many of our driver-partners shared that they had never previously received any formal training on how to respond to road accidents or medical emergencies — making those six hours among the most impactful of the entire programme.

A Stronger, Safer Fleet

Every driver who completes the induction training joins the GrEL fleet with a clearer understanding of:

  • How to use the GrEL app smoothly and efficiently
  • Their legal rights and responsibilities on the road
  • How to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies
  • How to make every passenger — regardless of gender or ability — feel safe and respected
  • GrEL's commitment to zero cancellations and zero surge pricing
